As I sat and listen to you speak about "I am a used to Be" my mind wondered back. I had grown cold in the lord. You see I was in the church orchestra from the 7th grade until I was 28 years old. I went thru a divorce and that was well against everything we were taught in church and I felt I was no longer worthy to play in church. I tried to play in other places it was just not fulfilling. I had not played in over 26 years the old horn just sat in the closet. I went to work at a nursing home as their maintenance director, and they had a little local group come in every Wednesday afternoon and do some picking and grinning. In our church we had a very good Steel Guitar player and we played together a lot. The sound was just great. Well this little group had a steel player who happened to be their Pastor, after 6 years of hearing them I decided to go to their church and practice with them. I was very surprised to have the same intonation but not the dexterity, but I did enjoy. This led to a rededication of my life and talents to JESUS. Today, I have a little local group called SMOOTH GOSPEL and I AINT WHAT I USED TO BE THANK GOD FOR HIS MERCY AND GRACE. As I look back I can tell you I was just not comfortable where I was and then I realized I had Left God, God had not left me, I was refilled with his wonderful spirit again and have dedicated the rest of my life to serving him in what ever manner He wants me to do. YOU KNOW...READING UP ON THIS SONG, I COULDNT HELP BUT TELL ABOUT WHAT GOD DID FOR LITTLE OLE UNDESERVING ME. I USED TO BE A TERRIBLE DRUNK THAT BEAT HIS WIFE AND KIDS. I USED TO GAMBLE THE RENT AWAY AND SPEND THE GROCERY MONEY ON WHATEVER I COULD GET HIGH ON...BUT 5 YEARS AGO, I ME T JESUS AND ALL OF THAT CHANGED. I REALLY AM A USED TO BE. GOD MADE ME A USED TO BE. IM GLAD THAT HE STOPPED MY RECKLESS HABITS IN TIME TO SEE MY FAMILY COME BACK TOGETHER. IM GLAD THAT HE TOOK AWAY THE DESIRE FOR DRUGS AND ALCOHOL BEFORE IT TOOK AWAY MY LIFE. I WAS FOR SURE ON MY WAY TO HELL. JESUS TOOK ME IN - JUST LIKE THE SONG SAYS, AND THANK GOD, NOW IM A USED TO BE!!!
